patient stories

I received a patient with a serious injury after an accident - part of a branch had penetrated his orbit.

When he was taken to the hospital, the outer part of the branch had already been removed, and the remaining part was fixed in order to bring the patient to the hospital.

On examination, we found that one end of the branch had entered the orbit very close to the nasal bones, but the eye itself remained intact. Apparently, the patient was very lucky and the “process of putting the face on the branch” was slow, so it moved the eye, leaving minimal damage, and rested against the back wall of the orbit, breaking it without displacement.

We needed to remove the fragment without damaging the posterior wall of the orbit (otherwise it would have been a brain injury) and without damaging the eye.

Since part of the ENT was involved, we consulted with neurosurgeons and an otolaryngologist before the surgery.

In the process, we were able to push the eye back, separate the branch and remove it without damaging vessels and other organs in the process.

Then we put the eye back in place and sewed the muscles back together so that the person did not have strabismus and completed the treatment.
The surgery was performed without damaging anything.
We received second place in the competition “Best Ophthalmologist in the Country”.
The patient was discharged after a couple of days
with 100% vision
